Bermondsey Market - (New Caledonian Market) Bermondsey St, SE1, London Bridge/Borough tube. Open Fri from 5am to 2pm - you are an early bird and a lover of antiques don't miss this market in the heart of the City: about 270 stalls displaying paintings, furniture, silver, old jewellery and much more. Be advised: best bargains go in the earliest hours.

Brick Lane Market - Brick Lane E1, Shoreditch, Aldgate East, Liverpool Street tube. Open Sun from 6am to 1pm - very popular Sunday market although not frequented by many tourists. Favourable prices and an extremely friendly atmosphere. Avisable to arrive reasonably early.

Camden Market - Camden Lock/Chalk Farm Road NW1 Camden town, Chalk Farm tube. Open 9.30-5.30pm daily - arguably the most famous of London's alternative markets. If you're thinking of going at the week-end, try Saturday to avoid the Sunday crowds.

Covent Garden Market - The Piazza, Covent Garden, WC2, Covent Garden tube. Open 9am-5pm daily - enjoy the buskers while you browse.
Greenwich Market - College Approach/Stockwell Street, SE10, British Rail Greenwich. Open 9am-5pm Sat, Sun - why not take a trip down the Thames to this indoor and outdoor market.

Petticoat Lane Market - Middlesex Street E1, Liverpool Street, Aldgate tube. Open Sun from 5am to 2pm (Wentworth St Mon-Fri from 10am to 2.30pm). London's favourite street market because of the variety of its clothing, leather jackets, watches, underwear. Overall good quality but no bargains to be found.

Portobello Road Market - Portobello Road, W10 and W11 Notting Hill tube. Open 8am-3pm Fri; 8am-5pm Sat - for food, clothes, antiques and much more besides.

St James's Church Courtyard - Piccadilly W1. Piccadilly Circus, Green Park tube. Open Thur-Sat from 10am-5pm - very easy to visit if you are strolling down Piccadilly - about 40 stalls displaying crafts, antiques, woolens and second hand clothes.

St-Martin-in-the-Fields-Market - St-Martin-in-the-Fields Church Courtyard (off Trafalgar Square) WC2, Charing Cross tube. Open Mon-Sat from 11am to 5pm, Sun from noon to 5pm. Various clothing: T-shirts, knitwear, leather jackets, plus second-hand books, Russian dolls and extensive selection of football scarves.
